Questions

What are reasons for not qualifying for GLP-1s?

A licensed provider decides after reviewing your intake. The following are common reasons for a provider to decline treatment or ask for further review:

  • BMI: An adult body mass index (BMI), calculated from the height and weight based upon your intake answers, which is below the range typically used for medical weight management. The range is typically a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes.
  • Medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2: A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). These medications should not be used in that case.
  • Pregnancy: These medications should not be used for weight loss during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, your provider will review whether treatment is appropriate for you.
  • Pancreatitis: A history of pancreatitis is reviewed by your provider and may affect whether treatment is appropriate.
  • Severe gastrointestinal disease: These medications are not recommended for people with severe gastrointestinal disease, including severe gastroparesis.
  • Other conditions or medications: Other health conditions or medications your provider determines make treatment inappropriate.

The program must also be available in your state. Eligibility is never guaranteed, and you are only charged for medication if a prescription is written for you.

Is this the same as a brand-name GLP-1 medication?

No. This program uses a compounded medication prepared for you under a prescription by a licensed compounding pharmacy. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved and are not reviewed by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, or quality.
